
A mate of mine who met him there has just told me that Quincy Jones (above) was in Cardiff on 3rd July, where he received an Honorary Fellowship of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama (RWCMD). Which would in theory entitle him both to use the letters above, and wear the cap and gown in the picture, as often as he sees fit…..
He did a Q + A with the students, where he talked about having been a pupil of Nadia Boulanger and Olivier Messiaen . Hands up at the back, how many of you knew that?! Sinatra at the Sands…Thriller….
Congratulations to great bassist Paula Gardiner, head of Jazz at RWCMD, and Hilary Boulding, Principal of the college…. with whom I played in student orchestras many, many years ago…. on quite a coup. Coo.
