I agree – some great stuff here. However, am I imagining it or does coverage in magazines like The Wire and the more intellectual rock mags so often seem to suggest that jazz from 30 or 40 years ago is much more fascinating than the jazz currently being produced? There seems to be a retro-chic element to their taste. So they will alert their readers to what John Surman was doing in his youth, but probably won't cover his latest album. Still, I am eternally grateful to The Wire for introducing me to The Books. Brilliant!
Peter you nail it as ever. The current stuff does get relegated as the celebrations whooping up 50 years of just about everything stretch on.
And on!

I'm a bit confused – did visionary jazz stop around 1970 ??
