HIDEAWAY- The new jazz place in Streatham

Drummer Matt Fishwick has just sent in a few words about playing at a new club, HIDEAWAY in Streatham :

When I walked into Hideaway for the first time one Sunday afternoon to play a brunch gig, I immediately knew that this place was special and different. Every care has been taken to create a pleasurable experience for both the listener and the performer. From it’s cool modern interior with comfy couches and long bar at the back of the room to it’s nice stage area and extremely good acoustic, all makes for a great place to perform or to hang out and listen to some of the great bands they have playing there. The food is also excellent.

When a new venue opens in London word inevitably spreads rapidly through the jazz community. And the wordis this: that Hideaway is a venue getting everything right.

Gigs to look out for at in June would be Outhouse on Wednesday 16th (progressive London Jazz at its best) and the Mike Outram Trio on Wednesday 23rd. Mike is a formidable guitarist, and his trio also features the incomparable Ross Stanley on organ. Not to be missed.

Matt Fishwick will be at the Lower Ground Bar with his own band (Matt Fishwick Quartet) on the 29th June at 9,00pm. The Lower Ground Bar is at 269 West End Lane, NW6 1QS.

Matt writes “It’s a great little basement club if you don’t know it. The band features Tom Cawley on piano, Josephine Davies on tenor and soprano sax, Tim Thornton on bass, myself playing drums.”
