Congratulations to great composer Michael Garrick, who will celebrate 50 years of broadcasting on Monday at BBC Studios Maida Vale, on his MBE.

I feel sure that within the jazz fraternity the award of gongs has little significance.But these two gentleman deserve the highest commendation for their devotion to music and the unrelenting battle they have waged with adversity and fiscal deprivation. Neither will ever be refused a garden party even though jazz is unlikely to be on the menu.
