Two of the people involved have written in to LondonJazz

Mark Armstrong:

“I have been involved with NYJO continuously for about 19 years as a player, composer and latterly musical director. It is a privilege and responsibility to be taking on the mantle of the great Bill Ashton, whose contribution to music education and vocational training in this country is extraordinary. I am excited by the opportunity to explore new avenues while retaining the heritage and traditions of our band.”

And Callum Au:

“It’s incredible that an organisation like NYJO can even function for as long as 45 years, let alone produce such a huge percentage of the country’s best jazz musicians during that time. The concept of a band made up of the very best of NYJO alumni since the band’s formation is pretty amazing.”
