This Tuesday January 4th at 10pm on BBC Radio 2 is the first part of a two-part radio profile of Eunice Waymon (1933-2003) – that’s Nina Simone* to you and me – by her daughter Simone (real name Lisa Stroud). Anyone who’s not a fan (is there anyone who’s not a fan?)… could find some of the commentary a bit gushing, but her life story, and the psychological problems she had to fight against, are well worth hearing about. And the music speaks for itself.
*She took the name from the french actress Simone Signoret (1921-1986) (Signoret wasn’t her real name either)
