RIP David Mason

There’s an obituary in the Telegraph today of that great English orchestral trumpeter David Mason.

He used to guest in the orchestras and bands I played in when I was a schoolboy. It was completely, unforgettably inspiring to have a musical presence of that magnitude in the seat behind you in an orchestra. It leaves an indelible memory on the mind’s ear.

The video tells the story of his Beatles “Penny Lane” recording. Modesty, no wasted words, less than a minute, sheer class. RIP and thank you.
