Ronnie’s Radio Fridays at 10pm

There’s a new radio show on Fridays on JazzFM at 10pm on Fridays, starting June 3rd.

The Ronnie Scott’s Radio presented by Jumoké Fashola, is an hour long show. Jumoke promises “tracks, interviews and behind the scenes trivia from the world’s most famous jazz club.”

In the first show there’s an interview with Dee Dee Bridgewater and Madeleine Bell.

The press release says: “Future guests include Kyle Eastwood, the son of the famed Hollywood actor Clint, Ron Carter, Joe Lovano, Eddie Palmieri, Marlena Shaw, Pharoah Sanders …..”

For those of us with an OCD knowledge-fetish, this news is not a complete bolt from the blue, since Richard Wheatly of JazzFM and Simon Cooke of Ronnie Scott’s are old colleagues from JazzFM in its previous incarnation.

  1. It's great that the demands of jazz are being increasingly met away from the BBC – good though programmes like Jazz on 3 are, they nevertheless have limited time slots.
So, for example, there's the show by Jason Phipps on French Radio London (on DAB on Thursdays) and of course the myriad of shows on the new internet station NTS (www.ntslive.co.uk). NTS is based in Dalston next to the Vortex. Femi who has started the station is a big fan of Polish jazz vinyl.

Among the shows is Babel Babble on Tuesday afternoons, which is also podcast. More details on the Babel web site. http://www.babellabel.co.uk
