The award “recognises outstanding mentors of young artistic talent covering all art forms, and was devised as part of the celebrations to mark the Genesis Foundation’s first ten years of nurturing emerging talent in the UK.” In a very strong field, the other five finalists were:
Marc Boothe: Founder and Managing Director of B3 Media
Tom Morris: Artistic Director of the Bristol Old Vic theatre company
Nadine Mortimer-Smith: Operatic soprano and Founder Director, Opera in Colour
Joe Scotland: Director of Studio Voltaire
Polly Staple: Director of the Chisenhale Gallery

Brilliant news – congratulations – valuable and astute recognition by the Genesis judges for Hamish's vision – understated, adventurous and committed to the highest standards in music right out on the edge and just a little bit further in. Thanks to Café Oto's programming London audiences are able to see – live – some of the most astonishing music around, in an ambience which combines informality with creative ferment. Things happen at Café Oto! They are bringing in a listening audience, but it is still a minority interest, which is perhaps what 'the underground' is all about!
