I just enjoyed the unusual angle and the composition of this shot, taken last night by Melody McLaren at Herts Jazz at Campus West in Welwyn Garden City. The gig takes place (or did last time I went) in the council chamber of Welwyn Garden City’s Town Hall. Herts Jazz is a regular, imaginatively programmed Sunday night gig. One of those cornerstones of the scene, it has been going since the 1960’s.

Great photo. Since your last visit the location has changed. No longer in the 'Council Chamber' but upstairs in 'The Terrace Suite' with it's own bar. Much more congenial. Well worth a visit.
We'd love to welcome all LondonJazz readers to Herts Jazz Club.
Whilst we are not in London (we are in Welwyn Garden City), we do market ourselves in Jazz in London etc because we are just 20 minutes from north London and barely 30 minutes from the centre.
As a visitor from Camden said last week, “It is easier to get to Herts Jazz than the Bull's Head.”
Clark Tracey is the main mover behind the club and uses his enormous black book of ocntacts to book great gigs throughout the year.
We have three more of our weekly Sunday gigs left for this season – Mark Nightingale and Alistair White's tribute to JJ and Kai this week, followed by John Critchinson and finally Georgia Mancio.
After the summer break we have our second weekend festival on 14-16 September with a terrific line-up varying from Stan Tracey to Troyka and Zoe Rahman to Martin Taylor and Alan Barnes. Details at http://www.hertsjazzfestival.co.uk.
We are on Facebook and you can follow us on Twitter @hertsjazz.
Come along and give us a try!
