Congratulations to two members of the jazz community featured in this mornings Birthday Honours.
There is an MBE for Roger Farbey, given “for services to Dentistry and Dental Information.” Roger runs the information services at the British Dental Association. But Roger has another distiguished life. Destiny rather than dentistry? He is the author of the 2010 Ian Carr discography, and runs the Ian Carr’s Nucleus website, and much more, as detailed in his entry in Allaboutjazz.
There is a BEM for Scottish jazz educator Richard Michael. Richard’s jazz education materials are at the Richard Michael’s Jazz School website.
In adjacent forms of music… there is a knighthood for Joe Stilgoe’s dad Richard, an award for Bath Festival director and pianist Joanna McGregor, and one for light music advocate Ernest Tomlinson. And for four good people who I am privileged and lucky to have worked with on various projects around music down the years: the actress Jenny Agutter, Stuart Fraser of the City of London Corporation, Richard Shepherd from York Minster, and conductor Harry Christophers.

Joe Stilgoe's new album, 'We Look To The Stars' is released on Monday 2nd July – available for pre-order at Amazon and on iTunes. It's incredible, almost entirely original material with a beautiful cover of Waterloo Sunset to round things off!
