James Rose writes about the Album – ACAPELLA

James Rose from ACAPELLA writes:

I’ve been exploring a cappella composition and arranging for several years.

The album Acapella is mostly me singing, multitracked, I sing one part, record the next on top, then the next, etc. There are also solo features from Martynas Vilpisauskas, Sam Robson and Sam Merrick

I also have an a cappella group that sings my compositions and arrangements live with me called VIVE which features: Emily Dankworth, Lewis Daniel, Ben Cox, Jenny Williams and Manrtynas Vilpisauskas. They are all jazz singers from the Guildhall School of music. (I currently study there too, but as a jazz piano player.)

We’ve received encouragement from Mervyn Warren, composer, producer and ex-member of Take 6, as well as from Jacqui Dankworth, Charlie Wood, Peder Karlsson, and others, so I’ve been spurred on to produce this album, which has been mastered by Jay Hodgson.

I didn’t want to produce a devotional album, rather one with a wider message about self-acceptance and belief in general, and to re-imagine the close-harmony jazz/spiritual/a capella sound.
