Cloudmakers Trio: Dave Smith, Jim Hart, Michael Janisch |
Cloudmakers Trio Album Launch – Saturday 27th October 2012
(Pizza Express, Dean St, Soho 1pm.)
JIM HART WRITES:
I’m really getting excited about the album launch gig at the pizza express on the 27th. It’s two years since we recorded the album there with Ralph Alessi and I’m looking forward to being back in that intimate space with the Cloudmakers trio and presenting a lot of new music as well as music from the album.
Dave Smith, the regular drummer in the trio has been called away by his new boss Robert Plant for a tour of South America so for this gig I’m very pleased to say we have the amazing David Hamblett with us. We have worked together for the last few years in Ivo Neame’s octet and quintet and we currently touring together with Ivo. I am really excited to hear what David will bring to this music. Bassist is Michael Janisch.
For this album launch gig we are collaborating for the second time with Antonin-Tri Hoang who is one of the most amazing young sax players to come along in recent years. From Paris, he is already a long standing member of the Orchestre National de Jazz (ONJ) and has recorded with the likes of Benoit Delbecq, Tony Malaby, Steve Arguelles, Ben Wendell, Tigran Hamasyan and recently with the Cloudmakers Trio for a BBC Jazzon3 broadcast which will air two days after the gig on Radio 3 on the 29th October.
His sound is so strong whilst being very beautiful and he is firmly rooted in the jazz tradition but playing with a totally fresh and contemporary attitude. This approach is really what gets me excited about jazz musicians. When I can hear and feel a tangible link for the past to the present moment, and hopefully beyond. Ralph Alessi definitely gives me that feeling and so does Antonin. I’d love to get them together sometime.
Antonin-Tri Hoang – Alto sax
Jim Hart – Vibes
Michael Janisch – Bass
David Hamblett – Drums
The gig will start at 1:00 PM and the TICKETS are £10-15.
