Dutch pianist/composer/vibrandoneon player Martin Fondse and trumpeter Eric Vloeimans have just been awarded a Dutch Edison for the CD recording of the suite Testimoni, a work which is to be performed at St James’s Piccadilly on Thursday 15 November at 7:30 in the London Jazz Festival.
At the LJF concert, alongside Testimoni, saxophonist Trish Clowes and the Tangent String Quartet, led by Thomas Gould, will perform Barbara Thompson’s arrangements of Kurt Weill songs, plus arrangements by Richard Rodney Bennett, John Dankworth, Mike Westbrook and Mike Gibbs.
The jury citation about Testimoni is as follows: “The jury praised ‘Testimoni’, a suite in two parts: ‘Interiori’, an introspective part and ‘Exteriori’: an ode to the expression. The listener is carried away by the beautiful compositions of Martin Fondse, who draws inspiration from various sources, and the musical imagination of trumpeter Eric Vloeimans and the sublime playing of the Matangi Quartet. The jury considered Testimoni a project where contemporary composed and improvised music are combined in a fascinating way to form an exciting musical experience.”
