Preview: Let Spin at Green Note, Camden, 15th November (LJF)

Alice Zawadzki and Moss Freed

Let Spin
(Green Note, Camden. Thurs 15th Nov. LJF Preview By Moss Freed.)

For LondonJazz’s twenty-second and final review of the London Jazz Festival, Moss Freed writes about this Thursday’s gig at the Green Note:

As with the best things in life there wasn’t much thinking involved in the conception of Let Spin. We formed almost accidentally. I had a UK tour booked for June but wasn’t able to take the original band. So I got a bunch of my favourite musicians together and we decided that this was going to be an equal venture, a collective, and we’d just see what happened. From the first rehearsal there was an immediate synergy and we discovered that we have a shared love for freedom in music, for sensitivity and for rocking out. It felt like we were all aiming for the same thing.

There’s a lot of variety in the music we play. With four different composers comes four sets of experiences and influences, but the band quickly developed a sound of its own. The tour got us excited and since then we have recorded an album that features two tunes from each member. I’m so glad that the original tour plan didn’t work out. Let Spin is a real confluence of ideas and I’m proud to be playing with them at the London Jazz Festival this year.

I’m especially looking forward to sharing the bill with my great friend and musical partner, Alice Zawadzki and her all-star band of Kit Downes, Jon Scott, and Alex Roth. Her performances always take you on a journey. I can’t wait to hear what she’s got for us this time.

Let Spin Are:
Acoustic Ladyland’s Ruth Goller (bass)
Led Bib’s Chris Williams (alto)
Fin Panter of Beats & Pieces (drums)
Moss Freed (guitar)
