Last night, Goldsmiths Hall hosted the British Composer Awards 2012.
The award for “Contemporary Jazz Composition” went to Christine Tobin for Sailing to Byzantium
Of the piece, the judges said: “In this ambitious and varied work, the composer has found a truly original voice. A well paced album of settings by Yeats, showing real sensitivity to the text and delivering a completely fresh approach to these well-known poems.“
The other nominees, Alex Roth – The Charm of Impossibilities and Laura Jurd – Giant’s Causeway, both are safe bets to win the award in the future.
