This pair of pictures by Melody McLaren captures superbly the pleasure, the respect, the focus, the quiet ego-less-nes of fine musicians listening to each other in the moment. Pictured here are Brigitte  Beraha and the legendary Bobby Wellins, whose sound was so jealously admired by Stan Getz, with pianist John Turville, at last night’s launch of the the blissfully unhurried standards album Red Skies, at Pizza Express Dean Street. In her review for LondonJazz, Alison Bentley has a good description of the album’s “very special atmosphere.”
