Saxophonist Charles Lloyd today turned seventy-five and to celebrate, he is bringing collaboration with Greek singer Maria Farantouri and his regular quartet to the Barbican on 28th April (2013). Chris Parker described their album together (Athens Concert) as having “ just enough grit in the musical oyster to produce a pearl of an album” in a CD review for our site.

ECM have also released an album (Hagar’s Song), in celebration which sees Lloyd playing with his regular quartet pianist Jason Moran in a duo setting and on 18th March, they will be releasing a box set of Lloyd’s first five albums for them.
