
The Rethinking Jazz Cultures International Conference at Media City in Salford, Greater Manchester which takes place from 11th to 14th April 2013 is, according to the press release, the “largest jazz research conference ever hosted”.
Ninety presenters from twenty countries. Among the contrubutors are two American scholars David Ake from the University of Nevada, Reno, and E Taylor Atkins, author of the book Jazz Planet. UK contributors include Alyn Shipton, Val Wilmer – and Sebastian Scotney. FULL SCHEDULE HERE.
The conference is part of the final phase of the three-year Rhythm Changes research project, “the largest research project funded for jazz in Europe” . Funded by the Humanities in the European Research Area, and led by Tony Whyton of Salford University, it involves a team of thirteen researchers working in five European countries (UK, the Netherlands, Austria, Denmark and Norway).
