News: Alexander Stewart Headlines at Charity Gig in aid of Street Child World Cup

On Saturday 18th May at Christ the Saviour Church in Ealing Broadway, there will be a charity gig (headlined by Alexander Stewart and featuring a hog roast and bar) in aid of The Street Child World Cup.

100% of the proceeds from tickets, the bar, and the hog roast will go to the charity which aims to provide protection to street children globally and organises their world cup ahead of FIFA’s to bring together street children from across the globe.

The Street Child World Cup is a global movement for street children to receive the protection and opportunities that all children are entitled to. Ahead of each FIFA World Cup, street children from across five continents are united to play football and join in a unique international conference. Together through football, art and campaigning the aim is to challenge the negative perceptions and treatment of street children around the world. Children also have opportunities to be placed in families and other ongoing support projects are funded in their local areas

The organizers write:

We think the church will provide a beautiful and ambient backdrop for the concert. There will also be a hog roast and a bar through the evening. We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of musicians willing to take part. Alexander Stewart, who has recently performed at Ronnie Scott’s and the Pizza Express Jazz Club, Dean Street has agreed to headline and Colin Salmon, mostly known as an actor but also a dedicated jazz trumpeter (having performed at Cheltenham Jazz Festival with his quartet) will play some tunes too. We have some local talented musicians taking part too.

Pianist Richard Hills will play jazz piano for us on this occasion. We will also be providing a platform for local students at the Junior London College of Music who will be accompanying Alexander and performing some of their own numbers. Also, a locally formed jazz group who perform to a very high standard, the Acton Music Collective, will be making a contribution. Clive Davis has kindly agreed to compere the evening for us.

We are delighted and grateful that Jazz on the Broadway will bring together such an impressive array of musicians raising awareness of the Street Child World Cup. We believe that no child should be forced to live on the streets and therefore more must be done to protect, rehabilitate and offer opportunity to these most vulnerable of children.”
