Steve Fishwick writes:
I’m very much looking forward to our UK tour which starts next week with a new band The Osian Roberts/Steve Fishwick International Sextet.
Joining us all the way from New York will be the much in demand baritone saxophonist Frank Basile (Vanguard Big Band, Joe Lovano Nonet, Dave Holland, Jimmy Heath etc).
Osian and I met Frank on Myspace around seven or eight years ago just before we went to NYC to record our album with Cedar Walton. Whilst we were there we met Frank in person, played a couple of sessions together, exchanged CDs and developed a mutual appreciation for each other’s music. After years of planning to work together we finally managed to play a gig last summer at Fat Cat in New York before Osian and I went on to play at Rochester Jazz Festival in the ‘Made in the UK’ program.
Now we’re excited about having the opportunity to develop the music over eight gigs here in the UK (thanks to Arts Council England).
Rounding out the group is one of Europe’s finest pianists, Albert Sanz, from Valencia in Spain (ALBUM WITH AL FOSTER REVIEWED HERE) and the stellar bass and drum team of Dave Whitford and Matt Fishwick.
