Interview with Phil Meadows by LondonJazz
We spoke to composer/saxophonist Phil Meadows by phone about his début album Engines of Creation, just released.
The Phil Meadows Group consists of, in the words of Jez Nelson, who played a track from it on Jazz on 3 on Monday, ‘a collection of rising stars on the British jazz scene’: Laura Jurd – trumpet, Elliot Galvin – piano, Conor Chaplin – bass, and Simon Roth – drums, and is entirely made up of original music.
We talked about his role as lead alto sax with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra, and about having been the only saxophonist and the only Briton in the 2011 European Keep an Eye Jazz Soloist Competition.
Live London date: Vortex with Matthew Bourne: Sunday 29th September (pp)
