David Aleksander Sjølie (guitarist of Mopti) writes:
After winning the award for Best young jazz act of 2012 and touring extensively in Norway, we are now embarking on their first tour abroad. We are coming to London for our gig on the Match and Fuse mini festival at the Vortex on 25th of July (TICKETS). Here we will team up with London-based Laura Jurd Quartet, for an exciting collaboration in conjunction with both bands’ love of improvising.
We aim for synergy, strong interplay and to make music which is understandable beyond the confines of words and labels, we like to head off in alternative directions without losing hold of the core elements of jazz music. We have been described by Terje Mosnes of Dagbladed (a leading Norwegian newspaper) as having “a balance between precision and playfulness in the moment ”
We will continue our UK tour together with Laura Jurd for concerts in Wales, Nottingham and Southampton and are super-excited about both our gig in London and the rest of our tour in the UK. We will release our début album “Logic” on the renowned Norwegian label “Jazzland Recordings” later this year.
