Sam Andreae, Manchester-based tenor saxophonist and co-founder of the EFPI record label, writes:
In a few weeks I’ll be heading back out on the road with my very favourite punk-improv band Trio Riot. Mette Rasmussen (DK) and David Meier (CH) will be joining me on alto and drums to complete the trio. We started playing together in 2009 when we all lived in Helsinki, since then we’ve kept up regular playing and gigging despite our increasing geographical challenges as the band is now spread between Manchester, Trondheim and Zurich!
This band is a three headed beast, not only in the line-up, but in our influences too as we combine a stubborn punk aesthetic with our free improvisation vocabulary and finally bolt on some contemporary compositions. It’s our very own Frankenstein’s monster and we love it very much.
This will be our 3rd tour in the UK and we’ll be playing a lot of new venues for us, including a date at the Manchester Jazz Festival and our London gig at The Cockpit’s Jazz in the Round night. Our MJF gig is part of a series run by Efpi Records (our label) and I can haughtily recommend anyone who might be in Manchester to check out the other dates which feature some great bands from the Efpi roster along with one or two of our friends from across the peaks. We’ll be making our first visit to Corey Mwamba’s One Note Sunday gig too, which is a regular series in Derby that deserves support from all local music lovers! So I hope to see you at one (or two?!) of the gigs, and if you’re very lucky, we may just have a few very special pre-release copies of our début album with us (lovingly recorded, hand crafted, screen printed, letter pressed, gold tinted punky goodness!).
