Interview with Frank Griffith by Frank Griffith, LondonJazz
Saxophonist/clarinettist/composer/bandleader Frank Griffith came in to talk to us about his most recent album Holland Park Non-Stop (Hep), recorded at Pinewood Studios. The studios are now sadly closed – we covered the story HERE.
Frank talked to us about two of the tracks on the album:
– Holland Park the (nearly) title track, which was commissioned by Cardinal Vaughan Memorial School in 2002 and premièred at St John’s Smith Square. The piece features a prominent drum part, played on the CD by Matt Home.
– Baby, Won’t You Please Come Home?, with Frank playing in the chalumeau (low) register of the clarinet, before we start chatting about his clarinet heroes.
Frank also talked about
– Tina May’s next album, also on Hep, to be released in September
– a series of gigs at Pizza Express Dean Street in April 2014 – each featuring different guests – with the Brodowski String Quartet.
