News: The Road to Jajouka, Benefit Album Released 10th September

“The music of Jajouka is trance music, ecstatic music, a music narcotic. From its source—a particular village in the southern Rif mountains of Morocco—this magical music has migrated around the world, moving like clouds, like water, like smoke-flowing through the collective consciousness of its appreciators”…

…says the press release for a new album (The Road to Jajouka) featuring new performances and remixes of Moroccan Jajouka music by Western musicians who used original Jajouka recordings as their point of departure. It will be released on September 10th (pre-order from Amazon HERE) on the Howe label, and is a tribute to the Legendary Master Musicians of Jajouka led by Bachir Attar.

Jajouka is a village wth an ancient form of ritual music that has attracted many Western musicians. Artists featured in this collection include John Zorn, Medeski Martin & Wood, Marc Ribot, Ornette Coleman and more.

All profits from album sales will go to the Jajouka Foundation . Listen to a sneak preview of the album HERE
