A first? A precedent? Benefit concert to support a jazz publication

This is the first time we’ve seen one of these: a benefit concert to support a jazz publication. Are there any prior examples?

It’s on September 13th at the Paradox venue in Tilburg, Holland. The website of the Paradox has the following announcement (our translation):

“For some time the popular web magazine Jazzenzo has been going through heavy weather. Disappointing revenues as a result of cuts in the cultural sector have left the Jazzenzo – founded in 2005 – in a situation where it barely meets its financial commitments.

In cooperation with Paradox, Jazzenzo has organized a benefit concert. Leading figures from the Dutch jazz scene are donating their services to this unique event.”

The triple bill will present a premiere collaboration by pianist Rembrandt Frerichs, vocalist Simin Tander and drummer Etienne Nillesen. Then a solo set from guitarist Corrie van Binsbergen. Saxophonist Yuri Honing hasn’t given details of his performance. Jazzenzo is mainly funded by ADVERTISING
