PRS for Music Foundation and the British Council have announced residencies in China for UK musicians. Arun Ghosh, Oliver Coates, Anna Meredith, Sam Genders, and Sid Peacock will spend six weeks across five cities in China in the spring of 2014.
Arun Ghosh will be spending his time in Wuhan (central China) working with local musicians on a new live score for an animated feature film.
Ghosh said:
“I am delighted to have been selected to be a Musician in Residence in Wuhan, China, as part of the second edition of the PRSF / British Council scheme. Being a musician in residence will bring wonderful opportunities to create new work with Chinese artists, and perform to Chinese audiences in this vibrant and thriving city. China is a new country for me, and I cannot wait to immerse myself in its art and culture, both contemporary and traditional. It will, I hope, be a tremendously inspiring time, and could lead to some wonderful cross-collaboration and creation.”

Sid Peacock (who has worked in China before) will be in Chongqing, utilising traditional Chinese musicians within his Surge ensemble.
Peacock said:
“Like many others I am in awe of the rise of China over the past two decades. There is so much to learn from both the old and new aspects of it’s culture and in understanding how that can influence my own artistic vision. The opportunity to visit Chongqing, the fastest growing megalopolis on Earth, and explore music making with people from all walks of life is just incredible. Whilst there I hope to make long lasting artistic friendships and to share some of the creative musical eccentricity that we excel in and value here in our islands.”
