Sebastian writes:

The last time I heard pianist Gwilym Simcock, he was playing left-hand only. He was at Pizza Express Dean Street at the end of November with guitarist Wolfgang Muthspiel.(Review here). He had torn a ligament in his right thumb during the week of the London Jazz Festival, and had needed emergency surgery.

The news is good. He is back, recovered, two-handed, and the first gigs to mark his return from injury will be two nights at Kings Place next week.

Thursday 9th January . The UK album launch of Johannes Berauer’s Vienna Chamber DiariesĀ (Material Records) with Klaus Gesing and Thomas Gould. There is also duo set from Gwilym Simcock and Klaus Gesing Ā (We reviewed a Ā previous concert by this duo). Ā The Austrian Cultural Forum have got behind this one. There is a VIDEO HERE.

Friday 10th. Ā A two-parter. The concert presents the UK launch of the album Instrumation (ACT Music). There will also be a trio set with baritone saxophonist Celine Bonacina and that commandingly authorative, less-is-more French bassist/composerĀ Michel Benita.

Both Concerts start at 8pm in Hall One. TICKETS
