Sebastian writes:

The last time I heard pianist Gwilym Simcock, he was playing left-hand only. He was at Pizza Express Dean Street at the end of November with guitarist Wolfgang Muthspiel.(Review here). He had torn a ligament in his right thumb during the week of the London Jazz Festival, and had needed emergency surgery.

The news is good. He is back, recovered, two-handed, and the first gigs to mark his return from injury will be two nights at Kings Place next week.

Thursday 9th January . The UK album launch of Johannes Berauer’s Vienna Chamber Diaries (Material Records) with Klaus Gesing and Thomas Gould. There is also duo set from Gwilym Simcock and Klaus Gesing  (We reviewed a  previous concert by this duo).  The Austrian Cultural Forum have got behind this one. There is a VIDEO HERE.

Friday 10th.  A two-parter. The concert presents the UK launch of the album Instrumation (ACT Music). There will also be a trio set with baritone saxophonist Celine Bonacina and that commandingly authorative, less-is-more French bassist/composer Michel Benita.

Both Concerts start at 8pm in Hall One. TICKETS
