Stan Tracey Tribute Night (The Flying Pig) at the Bulls Head 25th Jan

Clark Tracey will be remembering the depth of his late father’s association with the Bull’s Head in Barnes with a special tribute night raising money for charity, and performing Stan’s final work, The Flying Pig in the new music room.

It takes place on Saturday 25th January.

As the Press Release says: “Stan had held a monthly residency at The Bull’s Head more many years and so it is only fitting that we celebrate his life and the music he gave us on the day that would have been his next show here.”

The Flying Pig celebrated Stan Tracey’s 70th year in the profession with a recording of brand new originals, with Mark Armstrong (trumpet/flugelhorn), Simon Allen (saxophones), Andrew Cleyndert (bass) and Clark Tracey (drums). They will be joined by Steve Melling at the piano

Stan visited the WW1 battlefields of Loos in northern France, where his father was wounded and captured in 1915 aged 18 with son Clark and grandson Ben.

Stan says in the liner notes: “When writing these pieces, while wanting to keep a WW1 theme and not wishing to be too sombre about it, I decided to consult a book I have called “Wipers Times”, which contains a compilation of the magazines printed and distributed in the trenches, from which I gleaned the titles for five of these pieces. The pages are full of the British Tommy humour about such as the discomfort of the trenches, the bombardment of the German artillery, the British and German military equipment and much more. To find humour in the midst of a terrifying war speaks volumes about the spirit of the WW1 British Tommy.”

All proceeds from the night will go to Grove House Hospice where Stan Tracey was looked after towards the end.  LISTING/ TICKETS HERE
