The Cheltenham Jazz Festival has announced today that is partnering up with Cheltenhan-headquartered insurers Endsleigh to produce a competition for a ‘student jazz star’.
Quoting the press release: “The competition is open to all students currently enrolled on a full time course at university or place of higher education. / Applicants should provide a YouTube or SoundCloud link to a one track recording of their music. This should be done via the Endsleigh website./ Submitted music must be ‘jazz’ or one of its related genres including swing, blues, funk and soul. / The winning act will perform on Saturday, May 3 on the Free Stage in Montpellier Gardens – as part of Cheltenham Jazz Festival 2014.”

Comment: Bringing young talent to the fore is an established part of the Cheltenham Jazz Festival offering. In 2013 the festival paired up for its annual competition with the Verve label. In 2010 and 2012 the parner was the Yamaha JAzz Experience, in 2011 BBC Introducing, and in 2009 the Morning Advertiser/ Budvar.
