Ashley Slater (ex-Loose Tubes, Freak Power, Big Carla Bley Band) on X-Factor

Loose Tubes luminary Ashley Slater‘s Kitten and the Hip project, which he profiled back in January for us HERE has been on the receiving end of the X-Factor judging panel’s opinions. Ashley Slater (Wikipedia) has worked with people close to the top of the musical tree (Carla Bley, Norman Cook, Elvis Costello…), and certainly deserves better treatment than the X-Factor jury’s cringe-making, industrial-strength blend of condescension.

  1. Ashley is a phenomenal muso, and their performance was great. But that's missing the point, as is the assertion about the judges not knowing who he was or what he'd done…it's a show looking for the next big YOUNG popstar…and we all know muso credentials matter not a jot in X Factor.

But it would have been interesting if they'd gone in for Britain's Got Talent, which isn't ageist…reckon they'd have got through to later stages.
