Paul Wood, in the photo above, and Geoff Winston in the sketch below, have both caught the astonishingly youthful energy and verve which Dee Dee Bridgewater brought to the opening night of the EFG London Jazz Festival. She performed in both halves of Jazz Voice at the Barbican,(singing Lonely Woman), being interviewed in the interval between the two by Sara Mohr-Pietsch for radio and live-stream TV. She then hot-footed it over to Ronnie Scott’s for another live interview with Jez Nelson from the stage of the club, and a rousing set with a feisty young band led by trumpeter/arranger/producer Theo Croker, which brought Jazz on 3’s four-part night from Ronnie Scott’s to conclude on a high.

What an amazing short set at the Jazz On 3 live show from Ronnie's from Dee Dee Bridgewater with trumpeter Theo Croker's band, Dvrk Funk. Brilliant young crew with Irwin Hall (alto), Kassa Overall (dr), Eric Wheeler (b) and Michael King (p). Brimming with energy, enthusiasm, ideas and superb musicianship. Perfect complement to Stanley Clarke's equally awesome young band who opened the show. And Dee Dee – the real deal!
