Steve Crocker reports that Dave Hatfield, who was one of the leading lights of Leeds Jazz, died on Monday. From presenting the first gig, Billy Bang at the Trades Club in October 1984 to the last, Myra Melford at Seven Arts in November 2009, their entire, proud history is HERE. I remember the pride with which he once talked to me about having brought Hermeto Pascoal to Leeds in the 1980’s (poster above).

A Telegraph piece on which Dave Hatfield worked with me in 2009 – about ending the activity of Leeds Jazz in the knowledge that there would be a strong succession.

Dave made a big contribution to Leeds’ scene post Leeds Jazz, in particular setting up and running the Fusebox night in collaboration with members of the LIMA (Leeds Improvised Music Scene). He will be greatly missed. http://www.fuseboxleeds.org.uk/?page_id=215
