“I arrived at the studio and to my amazement, Tina was singing in the sound booth with the engineers. Now singers always have a separate recording booth where they can hear themselves properly and patch up any imperfections, but the string section were using the recording booth. Most singers would have refused to perform under such conditions, because, apart from the engineers, there were five people milling about in this little wardrobe space, but Tina was still her sunny self and didn’t offer a word of complaint and sang beautifully. Every take was perfect. She sang two of my songs which are fiendishly difficult perfectly .

“Frank Griffith‘s arrangements were sparkling, and John Jansson‘s arrangement of It’s a lazy afternoon was sublime. No wonder it received rave reviews and was chosen as one of the best albums of the year .

“Believe me, Tina May is a very, very special person.”
