The annual Trinity Laban Inside Out Jazz Festival takes place from June 22 to 25. Its six events are mainly at venues in and around the college in the heart of maritime Greenwich, but there is one special night at the Vortex. Virtually all the events are also free admission, and the Vortex gig will cost just £8 and £5 concessions. Click this link for the FULL PROGRAMME of all events.
One event which catches the eye is the opening night of the Festival at the Vortex featuring the Trinity Laban Jazz Choir, led by Pete Churchill and the Trinity Laban Big Band directed by flautist Gareth Lockrane.
On the Tuesday 23rd, there is an interview and workshop at the college starting at 2pm, during which Martin Speake will interview bassist Dave Green and drummer John Marshall about their careers and they will also be working/ advising student groups.
On the Tuesday evening Malcolm Earle-Smith, Mark Lockheart and Martin Speake will play in ensembles alongside Trinity Laban students and Green and Marshall.
The pattern of discussion and rehearsal open to the public, followed by a concert will be also followed on the Wednesday 24th, with a focus on Thelonious Monk. Liam Noble and Martin Speake will coaching students through Monk tunes and leading discussions, and the ensembles will perform in the evening. Oliver’s is a great, atmospheric little venue, historic Greenwich on some ofthe longest summer days of the year. What’s not to like?!
