SARA DHILLON will be running a two-day Afro Cuban Big Band workshop on Sundays 12th and 19th July in central London. She writes:
“I’m really passionate about Afro-Cuban music and also Latin influenced Jazz music and I teach an Afro-Cuban Big Band Workshop twice a year. A lot of jazz players don’t necessarily realize how fun and exciting this style of music is to play and this course is a great way to test the waters and find out. My next workshop is coming up in a week’s time on July 12th/July 19th respectively and in particular I am trying to recruit more brass and sax players.
I already have a great rhythm section lined up and the workshop takes place in central London close to Russell Square. The workshops are good fun, for intermediate players only and participants get to work on sight-reading, soloing, arrangement and ensemble playing within some classic Cuban and Salsa styles.
It’s a great way for jazz players to check out the music and play through some fantastic charts by some of the great band leaders from the Cuban, Salsa and Latin Jazz genres including Tito Puente and Cal Tjader.”
