|Trudy Kerr and Anita Wardell|
International jazz vocalists Trudy Kerr and Anita Wardell present Jazz Singing School:
Trudy and Anita met in 1985 during a singing competition in Sydney, Australia. They immediately became good friends and have remained so ever since. Moving to London a few years later, and studying on the prestigious Postgraduate Jazz and Studio Music course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, was the springboard for establishing their careers in jazz singing, both going on to record albums to critical acclaim, and extensively touring the UK and around the world.
Alongside their artistic careers, they share a true passion for jazz education. Both are very well respected educators, and sought after globally. Anita has taught at most universities and conservatories around the UK including the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Colchester Institute and Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, and is in great demand all over the world as a visiting jazz specialist, as well as having a thriving private practice. Trudy holds teaching posts at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, London Centre of Contemporary Music and Chichester University and has recently received a Fellowship with the Higher Education Academy.
With many conversations about vocal jazz education, the time was right to collaborate and create a learning platform for jazz singers of all levels. So they have created Jazz Singing School and are hoping this will be a hub for just that, offering courses, online tutorials, videos and information to all those interested in singing jazz.
To launch Jazz Singing School, Trudy and Anita will be holding a three-day Xmas Jazz Voice Boot Camp, 28th – 30th December. The course will include the following study topics: vocal technique; improvisation; vocalese; finding repertoire and making it unique to you; rhythm and ear training; performance masterclass; finding your key and way around a chart. All this and more.
