For a constructive grass-roots response to the New Year Honours try Steve Crocker's piece on his Northern Jazz Live blog
And it's not just jazz. Do a word search on “music”. You'll find a lot of academics and teachers; lots of CEOs and charity trustees, a few community organisers and as far as I can see only 6 musicians. 4 classical and 2 pop. As always this is the establishment “honouring” the establishment – and we aren't in it!
