Sebastian writes:

Saxophonist/educator/legend Dave Liebman is briefly in the UK from this weekend. (There’s a good, compact biography of his huge epoch-making career HERE). His main role will be spending a week with the students in Marylebone Road as the third International Jazz Artist in Residence at the Royal Academy of Music. There are – the list might not be complete, let me know –  four public appearances:

Sunday 24th : Masterclass and concert (the latter already sold out) for Brighton Jazz School at the Verdict club (TICKETS)

Wednesday 27th: Forge Venue Camden. A talk with the title: Dave’s Experience With His Mentors: Miles Davis and Elvin Jones followed by a small band set with Academy students. (TICKETS)

Thursday 28th: Vortex. A musical first encounter at the very highest level. Dave Liebman and Liam Noble. In the words of the much-missed Paul Bley: “If you know what’s going to happen, there’s no reason to go to the gig — you go to the gig to get lost.” (TICKETS)

Friday 29th: Duke’s Hall, Royal Academy of Music: The culmination of the week’s work at RAM – Dave Liebman with the Academy Big Band. “The band plays a mixture of Dave Liebman’s seminal compositions, arranged for big band by some of the greatest orchestrators around; including Vince Mendoza, Alan Baylock and Jim McNeely’s Grammy winning arrangement of ‘Sing, Sing, Sing.’ “. (TICKETS)

TRIVIA CODA: Dave Liebman is the third International Jazz Artist in Residence at the Royal Academy of Music to be called Dave. Name the two others.
