No Northern Ireland bands once again, a startling deficiency in the programme's reach. Is it just a funding issue, as the scheme could conceivably labour under a misnomer (and operates only locally within England, Scotland and Wales); or is it an understandable lack of knowledge and awareness of the burgeoning new NI scene? Perhaps the scene there needs to reach out to the organisers to get to the front of the bus more otherwise familiar names from elsewhere geographically will continue to be selected year in year out and the initiative will be more static than its biggest fans can even allow for.
John Elson of ESIP has responded:
We endeavour each year to reflect the music created in each country that makes up the UK. We have selected from Northern Ireland in the past and they received funding, however, they failed to follow the USA visa approval procedure and unfortunately had to withdraw.
Please let me have any interest/suggestions for 2017 by end of September 2016.john (at) esip.co.uk
