Gregory Porter wearing a Mace & Maiw bow tie |
Gregory Porter, on tour currently, has met a London designer, Mary Cayenne-Elliott of Mace & Maiw who designed an exclusive selection of ties for him.
We are running a prize draw competition, only via our Facebook Page. Add a comment to enter. Draw will be made on Monday 11th April, around midday. The winner will be put in touch Mace & Maiw by Romy Summers, to be sent a tie similar to the one worn by Gregory himself. The designs made for Gregory remain exclusive.
Sebastian interviewed Mary Cayenne-Elliott:
LondonJazz News: Mary, this is quite a new business, right?
Mary Cayenne-Elliott: Ties, bow ties, pocket squares and cravats are all included in my mens’ accessory range. the range for men was launched this year 2016.
LJN: Are they pre-made or tie-yourself?
M C-E: I offer both, simply because my clients, especially those in the US, prefer self tie however in the UK, the pre-tied range tends to be more frequently worn. Regular ties are worn by everyone.
LJN: Where do the materials come from?
M C-E: I source in the UK, design in the UK and manufacture in the UK. I prefer it that way and there are no plans for that to change.
LJN: What are popular colours / designs?
M C-E: My range is very eclectic. A real mixture of fabric, textures and colours, so in answer to your question, there isn’t really a popular colour/design. Many of my designs are one-off; those who appreciate quality and something a little more individual come to me for that purpose.
LJN: Have there been events that have suddenly created big demand?
M C-E: Men have become more expressive in terms of the accessories they choose to compliment there clothing. Times of celebration and special events always increase demand.
