NEWS: Vortex announces fourteen additions to its programme during the EFG London Jazz Festival

The Vortex in Gillett Square in Dalston is one of the many magnets for activity in London during the London Jazz Festival. It is announcing no fewer than fourteen additions to its programme during the festival, of which quite a few are not included in the official programme. Twenty-seven events ARE listed in it HERE. Oliver Weindling writes:

In addition to main shows in the main club, The Vortex is using its Downstairs space extensively for some early evening gigs as well as a number of late shows in both venues. Through the festival, this means that the Vortex is hosting almost 30 concerts and 40 groups from UK and elsewhere, the club’s busiest EFG London Jazz Festival ever.

11 November, 18 November: Some Things with Chris Dowding, Ben Higham, celebrating musicians from Norwich

12 November: Alex Bonney (trumpet, electronics)/Terje Evensen (percussion, electronics)

13 November: Yazz Ahmed (trumpet) in duo with Swedish guitarist Sam Hallqvist

15 November: Kirk Knuffke (Downbeat Rising Star poll winner 2015, trumpet)/Olie Brice (bass)/Mark Sanders (drums)

16 November: Niklas Winter (Finnish guitarist)/Henry Lowther (trumpet)/Dave Green (bass)/Paul Clarvis (drums)

19 November, 20 November Thelonious. Two evenings devoted to the music of Monk by a piano-less quartet including Hans Koller (trombone), Martin Speake (saxophone), Calum Gourlay (bass)

12, 19 November (Downstairs 11.30pm, FREE) Bruno Heinen’s Jazz2RockSteady (with special guests including Rachael Cohen and more)

18 November (Downstairs 11.30pm, FREE) Kindling Trio (led by guitarist Dan Messore)

13, 20 November (Downstairs, 9pm. FREE): Vortex sessions led by Hannes Riepler
