South East London-born and raised singer DEELEE DUBE is the winner of the 2016 Sarah Vaughan International Competition. The finals were held at the New Jersey Centre for the Performing Arts in Newark. Her first prize package consists of a CD recording with Concorde Jazz, 5000 US Dollars, and a concert at Montreal Jazz Festival. Her songs in the final were “Darn that Dream” and “Cherokee”, and in the run-off of the last three she sang Bruno Martino’s “Estate”
The other finalists were Lauren Bush (interview), also London-based, Sinne Eeg from Denmark, Teira Lockhart Church from Los Angeles, and Lauren Scales, originally from Detroit. The panel of judges included Dianne Reeves, Sheila Jordan and Christian McBride..The first ever winner was Cyrille Aimee (interview)
Deelee Dubé studied at the BRIT School and the Royal Academy of Music.
She will be flying back later today November 21st, and appearing hot-foot off the plane at Renato D’Aiello’s Monday gig at Ronnie Scott’s Upstairs.
