This year’s Jazz Promotion Network annual conference will be held on 26/27 June at Leeds College of Music and will include the organisation’s AGM. The conference includes workshops, seminar sessions and live music covering, according to the newsletter, “the length and breadth of the jazz scene in the UK and Ireland”.
The newsletter also reports on the organisation’s #jazz100 initiative which was launched at the Cheltenham Jazz Festival. This is what it says:
“The end of this past month marked the launch of #jazz100 at Cheltenham Jazz Festival. #jazz100 is a new JPN digital initiative launching the next 100 years of British and Irish jazz through a host of content and programmes all branded under the umbrella of #jazz100. With both industry-facing and audience-facing goals, #jazz100 aims to unite the sector, highlight the vibrancy of the scene and introduce new audiences to jazz across the UK and Ireland.
“The launch took place at the festival’s VIP tent, with live music from members of Kansas Smitty’s and Guy Barker, a welcome speech by Project Director Dave Morecroft and a short interview with Guy Barker.”
In a press release dedicated to the #jazz100 project, Morecroft said:
“For decades the UK and Ireland have produced outstanding jazz musicians, festivals and clubs, and welcomed the world’s greatest artists to our stages. Jazz is vibrant, spontaneous, exciting and experimental – and we want to share this with everyone. #jazz100 invites all music lovers to come together with the common goal of building a strong jazz future for generations to come.”
