Say the words “Jazz on a Summer’s Day” and most of us recall the classic Bert Stern film documenting the 1958 Newport Jazz Festival on Rhode Island.

But the people behind the Trinity Buoy Wharf arts neighbourhood in East London have requisitioned it for their own jazz festival on 23 June. They intend it to be an annual event.

The 2019 line-up includes the Grand Union Orchestra All Stars, the Dave O’Higgins & Rob Luft Quartet, and Mishka Adams & Beto Caletti.

The press release expands thus:

“To make the most of the riverside setting of Trinity Buoy Wharf, a new summer garden has been installed, bringing a picnic feel to the otherwise industrial site. Expect chilled vibes and a family feel, as the event is open to all ages, with free entry for kids (up to 11 years old). London’s only Lighthouse will open for the event, giving you a chance to snap an Insta-worthy view of the River Thames.”

Participation is all part of the modern summer festival, and Jazz on a Summer’s Day is offering a samba workshop with members of Grand Union, and some Latin American singing with Mishka Adams and Beto Caletti.

Event times: 2pm- 9pm
Ticket cost: Standard: £20.00, Youth discount (12- 18year olds): £15.00, Children up to 11: free

The festival is funded by Urban Space Management and Trinity Buoy Wharf Trust.
