The 2019 edition of Emulsion, saxophonist/composer Trish Clowes‘ one-day festival of genre-straddling music (her eighth), will take place in the Vortex Jazz Club, in Dalston, London, on Saturday 12 October.

It was at the Vortex back in 2012 that Clowes held her first Emulsion festival and since then it has visited Birmingham, Shrewsbury and Cheltenham, expanding on its way its refreshing mix of jazz, classical and other styles of music which manages to range far and wide while still maintaining a kind of identity all of its own. In that time Emulsion has commissioned and premiered 17 new works, two of which have won BASCA awards.

The line-up for Emulsion VIII is: Trish Clowes – saxophones, Louise McMonagle – cello, Lauren Weavers – oboe/cor anglais, Mandhira de Saram – violin, Nick Smart – trumpet, Max Welford – clarinets, Tim Giles – drums, Ross Stanley – piano/Hammond organ, Chris Montague – guitar, Catriona McDermid– bassoon, Misha Mullov-Abbado – bass & special guest appearance from Nikki Iles – piano.

The programme will include pieces by Nikki Iles, Robert Mitchell, Hans Koller and Josephine Stephenson as well as Trish Clowes.

Emulsion describes itself variously as: “a celebration of the adventurous spirit & the open mind, an experiment, a group of like-minded musicians, 
a cross-genre new music platform
, a specialised and unusual development opportunity, an evolving concept.”
