BYMT Jazz School 2021: Mingus Project

The Bromley Youth Music Trust (BYMT) jazz school is starting a new project in January 2021, where school kids will be given the chance to play Charles Mingus

The BYMT jazz school is open to all school children on any instrument (grade 3-8) who want to learn more about jazz, ensemble playing and improvisation. Last year, students had the opportunity to play at the London Jazz Festival and come January 2021 the school is starting a new project learning Moanin‘ by Charles Mingus, which will culminate in a video performance to premiere online in the spring.

The jazz school starts on Thursday 14 January and will take place weekly during term time. It will be a mix of in-person sessions at the Bromley Music Hub and online sessions.

Lead tutor Buster Birch says: “We have a lot of fun and students learn a lot about how music works through a very practical process and it really improves their confidence as they learn how to express themselves through the music.”
