Saxophonist Tony Kofi will be playing at the 606 Club for International Jazz Day in a programme featuring Zimbabwean singer Nandi. It will be the first public appearance of a new alto saxophone which he has had to buy following a theft.

Tony’s King Zephyr was stolen in a break-in at the end of March at the World Heartbeat Academy in Wandsworth. We reported it HERE

Nikki Collins set up a fundraiser. It attracted 121 donations and raised over £4,200. LINK AND LIST OF DONORS HEREREPORTED IN THE PRESS HERE.

Laura Thorne, a good friend of LJN and the 606’s Marketing Manager, asked Tony to tell her more about the instrument, new to him, that he will be playing on 30 April at the club:

Tony Kofi: “It came to me because someone was searching eBay, Gumtree and other online saxophone sellers and thought it might be mine but it wasn’t, I about to delete the messages when it just took my eye so after being dissatisfied with trying out 10 other saxophones I enquired about it and went to try it and it was perfect. It’s a King Super 20 silver sonic with a a solid silver bell and neck, very rare vintage horn that they don’t even make anymore. Plays like a dream”.
